The Broadband Wireless Specialist (BWS) Curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of wireless networks in homes and small businesses. Learners will gain an understanding of wireless, Wi-Fi standards, Wi-Fi network devices, planning and implementation, security, RF basics, antenna theory, installation, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
There are four courses in the BWS Curriculum:
- Residential Wireless Networks
- Wi-Fi Network Operations
- Wi-Fi Radio Frequency Operations
- Wi-Fi Installation and Security
Format
Self-paced interactive Online Course: Learners start the SCTE VirtuLearn® course at any time, study at their own pace, and have access to dynamic online content after they register. On average, learners will spend approximately 1 to 2 hours per week over 12 weeks completing course activities. SCTE provides access to the course for 1 year from the date of purchase.
System Requirements: A high-speed Internet (HSI) connection, Internet browser with HTML5 support.
For tablet or smartphone access, HTML5 may be used for online eBook content.
Instructor-Led Onsite or Virtual Boot Camp Course: the SCTE VirtuLearn course may be delivered as an onsite or virtual boot camp.

Certification
The Broadband Wireless Specialist (BWS) curriculum prepares learners for the nationally recognized SCTE Broadband Wireless Specialist (BWS) certification. The certification is designed for individuals interested in working in the cable telecommunications industry for a cable provider, contractor, or vendor. More information.
The BWS curriculum also prepares learners for two industry certifications from the Certified Wireless Network Professionals (CWNP). SCTE is a CWNP Authorized Learning Center with Certified Wireless Network Trainers (CWNT) on staff.
The Certified Wireless Specialist (CWS) and the Certified Wireless Technician (CWT) certifications are highly regarded foundational certifications.
Upon Successful Completion
- SCTE curriculum completion certificate
- A total of 2 recertification units (RUs) toward SCTE certification renewal with completion of all curriculum courses.
