Executive Summary
This document is part of a suite of documents related to MPEG DASH for IP-Based cable services and is referred to as a whole SCTE 214. Part 1 describes general MPD constraints and common features supported by both the DASH TS profile and DASH ISO BMFF profile. Part 2 contains further constraints for the DASH TS profile. Part 3 (deprecated) respectively contains further constraints for the DASH ISO BMFF profile. Part 4 provides an instance MPD template for the DASH TS profile. Part 5 which replaces Part 3 (deprecated) defines ISO BMFF segment constraints and features but only for ISO BMFF DASH Profiles. Part 5 is expected to be further amended in the future as constrained ISO BMFF profiles and features are further developed beyond DASH Edition 6. Parts 1 & 2 are expected to become stabilized in the near future with no further features added.
Scope
This part of the standard defines a profile of MPEG DASH which is based on the BMFF Common Profile [DASH section 8.10] while defining additional media segment constraints for enabling a common media segment format across multiple adaptive streaming technologies.
This document, SCTE 214-5, describes segment, content protection, and additional MPD constraints for DASH ISO MBFF profiles for IP-Based cable services supported by current DASH specifications. It follows a CMAF like set of constraints but may diverge as indicated in this document. This applies to unmultiplexed DASH segments used for linear channel services and VOD files.

This document assists in expanding IP-Based cable services while enabling a common segment format across multiple adaptive streaming technologies. It also provides the ability to transition back end systems towards more IP focused environments to provide an End-to-End IP based environment.
